# ERROR: No buildpack groups passed detection How to fix it.

URL: https://antideploy.com/blog/no-buildpack-groups-passed-detection

The builder could not tell what your project is. There is usually no package.json, requirements.txt, go.mod, Gemfile or pom.xml at the root of what was sent.

**What you see**

```
ERROR: No buildpack groups passed detection.
ERROR: failed to detect: no buildpacks participating
```

## At a glance

- **What it means**: The language was not detected
- **Usual cause**: The project sits in a subfolder
- **Fix one**: Send the right folder
- **Fix two**: Set the root folder

## What it means

Before it builds, the builder looks for a file that names your language: `package.json` for Node.js, `requirements.txt` or `pyproject.toml` for Python, `go.mod` for Go, `Gemfile` for Ruby, `pom.xml` or `build.gradle` for Java. It found none at the root of what was sent, so it cannot choose how to build.

## How to fix it

### 1. Check what you sent

Is the project inside another folder? A common cause is sending the parent folder, so `package.json` sits one level down.

### 2. Send the right folder, or set the root folder

Deploy from the folder that holds the manifest. If your repository holds several projects, choose the folder to build, and Antideploy builds it as if it were the whole project.

### 3. Or add a Dockerfile

A Dockerfile at the root tells the builder how to build any project. See [how to deploy with your own Dockerfile](https://antideploy.com/blog/how-to-deploy-a-docker-app-with-your-own-dockerfile).

### Does Antideploy support monorepos?

It deploys one app at a time from a repository. A repository that holds several apps needs the folder to build chosen.

### What about a project that only has HTML files?

That is a static site. An `index.html` is enough, and Antideploy serves it.

### Does this failed deploy cost anything?

No. Failed deploys never count against your plan.
